Church@Main

Purpose and Vision Statement

By: Rodney Rice – Pastor/Teacher

The following purpose and vision statement is a snapshot overview of what Church@Main, of Brownsburg, IN will look like at its inception and as it continues to serve and minister to the community of Brownsburg, IN and the surrounding towns of central Indiana and around the world.

Snapshot #1 -- Practical Expository Bible Teaching

From the beginning of the Church, and the record of its birth in the book of Acts through the writings of the Apostles in the New Testament, the first responsibility of the church and its Pastors and Teachers is to faithfully teach and preach the word of God. This is one of the primary means by which God chooses to transform lives. This is born out through the entire New Testament.

Matt. 28:20 “…teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you.”

Acts 2:42 “They devoted themselves to the apostles teaching…”

Acts 5:42 “Day after day, in the temple courts and from house to house, they never stopped teaching and proclaiming the good news that Jesus is the Christ.”

Romans 10:14 “…and how can they believe in the one of whom they have not heard? And how can they hear without someone preaching to them?”

I Cor. 1:21 “…God was pleased through the foolishness of what was preached to save those who believe.”

I Tim. 4:7 “Have nothing to do with godless myths and old wives tales…”

I Tim. 4:11-13 “Command and teach these things…..until I come, devote yourself to the public reading of Scripture, to preaching and to teaching.”

II Tim. 4:1-5 “…I give you this charge: Preach the Word; be prepared in season and out of season; correct, rebuke, and encourage – with great patience and careful instruction. For the time will come when men will not put up with sound doctrine. Instead, to suit their own desires, they will gather around them a great number of teachers to say what their itching ears want to hear. They will turn their ears away from the truth and turn aside to myths. But you, keep your head in all situations, endure hardship, do the work of an evangelist, discharge all the duties of your ministry.”

Snapshot #2 – Passionate Prayer

God commands His people to pray and he delights in answering our prayers. This doesn’t mean that God’s hands are tied and He cannot accomplish His purposes unless we pray. Rather, He enjoys our fellowship and is pleased when we acknowledge His power and His sovereignty. Prayer will be a primary focus of Church@Main. We want people in this community to know that this church understands the power of prayer. If Church@Main is to experience the power of God on its ministries, it will be a direct result of prayer.

I Samuel 12:23 “…far be it from me that I should sin against the Lord by failing to pray for you.”

II Chron. 7:14 “If my people who are called by my name will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then will I hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and will heal their land.”

Jeremiah 33:3 “Call to me and I will answer you and tell you great and unsearchable things you do not know.”

I Thess. 5:17 “pray continually;”

Acts 6:4 “(we) will give our attention to prayer and the ministry of the word.”

Eph. 6:19-20 “Pray also for me, that whenever I open my mouth, words may be given me so that I will fearlessly make known the mystery of the gospel, for which I am an ambassador in chains. Pray that I may declare it fearlessly, as I should.

James 5:13-16 “Is any one of you in trouble? He should pray. ….. And the prayer offered in faith will make the sick person well;

the Lord will raise him up. If he has sinned, he will be forgiven. Therefore confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous man is powerful and effective.”

Snapshot #3 – Spirit led worship

A worshipping church is a living church. The Father is seeking those who will worship Him in Spirit and in Truth. Church@Main will endeavor to use a variety of styles of worship to meet a wide range of needs. For the body of Christ, there is beauty in diversity. God didn’t make us with the same tastes and preferences. Therefore, our worship should have variety as well. Our goal is to offer multiple services which offer different worship styles, but the same message.

Psalm 147:1 “Praise the Lord. How good it is to sing praises to our God, how pleasant and fitting to praise him.

Psalm 149:1 “Praise the Lord. Sing to the Lord a new song, his praise in the assembly of the saints.”

John 4:23-24 “Yet a time is coming and has now come when the true worshippers will worship the Father in spirit and truth, for they are the kind of worshippers the Father seeks. God is spirit, and his worshippers must worship in spirit and in truth.”

Acts 2:46-47 “they broke bread in their homes and ate together with glad and sincere hearts , praising God and enjoying the favor of all the people.”

Eph. 5:19 “Speak to one another with psalms, hymns and spiritual songs. Sing and make music in your heart to the Lord….”

Snapshot #4 – Evangelism, Discipleship and Missions

We must be faithful to the great commission given by Jesus to His disciples. This means taking the gospel to all people, by all biblical means possible. Small group bible studies will form the core agent for discipleship and body life – the Body of Christ ministering to one another. We will encourage every member of Church@Main to be involved in a small group. We will also use creative methods to build bridges of friendship with unchurched people in order to earn the right to share with them the good news of salvation. We must not be content to simply exist within our little ‘christian bubble’. We must be willing to befriend, rub shoulders and ‘hang-out’ with those we want to share Christ with. Church@Main will also be actively involved in global missions. As we are ministering and reaching people in our own back yard, we must obey the command of scripture to “…go into all the world…”.

Matt. 9:11-12 “ ‘Why does your teacher eat with tax collectors and sinners?’ on hearing this, Jesus said, ‘It is not the healthy who need a doctor, but the sick.’ ”

Matt. 28:19-20 “Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you.”

Mark 16:15-16 “He said to them, ‘Go into all the world and preach the good news to all creation…’”

Acts 1:8 “…and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.”

Snapshot #5 – Family Ministries

Throughout our ministry, Jimmelynn and I have had the awesome privilege of training and offering opportunities for ministry to many young people. It has been our delight to see the Lord use them and begin nurturing a desire in their hearts to serve God with their gifts for the rest of their lives. The children and youth ministries of Church@Main will be Bible based --- children will enjoy learning the word of God and discovering how to put it into practice every day. As they grow into middle school and Senior High, there will be many opportunities for them to serve and ‘flesh out’ their relationship with Christ. While both of these ministries will be geared for appropriate ages and will be fun, exciting and challenging for our children, it will not just be a ‘party time’. We consider it an awesome responsibility to introduce children to their creator – the one who loves them, died for them, and desires to have a personal relationship with them. The leadership at Church@Main will not take lightly making sure that those who minister to our children have a passion and love for young people, and a desire to see them give their lives to Christ and serve Him faithfully.

Snapshot #6 – A place of Grace

Church@Main will strive to foster at atmosphere of acceptance and grace. When God saves us, He takes us right where we are – warts and all – and begins a redeeming work of grace in our life. The goal of our Christian walk is to become more and more like Jesus Christ. That work will not fully reach completion until we are in heaven. Until then, Church@Main recognizes that we are ALL messed up, we are ALL in need of God’s grace and we are on this faith journey together. Our faith needs to be authentic, our forgiveness deep, our grace to others wide and accepting. Our desire is to foster an attitude of acceptance for ALL people, regardless of one’s past, background, ethnicity, socioeconomic status and social sub-culture. We all need grace – just as Christ has shown to us – boundless, limitless and amazing … GRACE.

Luke 6:37 “Do not Judge, and you will not be judged. Do not condemn, and you will not be condemned. Forgive, and you will be forgiven.”

John 4:4-26 (Jesus and the Samaritan woman)

Eph. 2:8-9 “For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith – and this not from yourselves, it is the gift of God – not by works, so that no one can boast.”

Gal. 6:14 “May I never boast except in the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ, through which the world has been crucified to me, and I to the world.”
